(WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- At least 100 Metro jobs will be impacted by a proposed budget for the next fiscal year, according to the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Paul J. Wiedefeld.

Wiedefeld said on Friday he anticipated that Metro will have to face several difficult decisions to balance the budget.

The Human Resources team will be working with the executive team to inform around 100 employees about impacts to their jobs due to budget changes. Wiedefeld stated that he would elaborate on the changes once those impacted have been notified.

In addition Wiedefeld said that updating radio and cell phone service to ensure that communication is reliable is a major key in operating a safe and secure Metro system. Thirty percent of the tunnel work has been done and 20 percent of the cable management systems have been put in place. The project will take several years, however the cell service will improve as the work continues, Metro said.
