WASHINGTON — A Texas man was arrested Wednesday at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport after Transportation Security Administration officers caught him with a loaded handgun.

The gun was described as a .380 mm handgun and was loaded with six bullets, including one bullet in the gun's chamber, according to a press release.

A TSA officer saw the gun in the X-ray machine at Terminal B. The officer then contacted the Maryland Transportation Authority Police who confiscated the gun and arrested the man on a state weapons charge.

The man told officials that he forgot he had the loaded gun with him, according to the release.

This marks the 10th handgun caught by TSA at BWI in 2019.

Individuals who bring firearms to airport checkpoints are subject to potential criminal charges — this includes those with concealed firearm permits. TSA also has the authority to assess civil penalties of up to $13,000 for weapons violations, according to the release.

TSA has additional information on how to travel with a firearm.
