HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police are searching for a suspect who fired a pellet gun at a speed camera in Howard County on Monday.

The incident happened in the 5000 block of Ilchester Road close to Landing Road around 3:45 p.m. The back windshield damage seems to have been caused by either a pellet of BB gun, Howard County police said. An employee was inside of the van at the time of the incident. Police say the fire may have come from a Jeep.

Four other people have already been arrested in connection with destruction of speed cameras or vans since the program started in the county, police said.

"We want people to know that we take these cases very seriously and will file criminal charges," said Police Chief Gary Gardner. "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about the speed camera program, but we cannot overlook the significant damage to equipment and potential injury to our van operators."

Anyone with information about Monday's incident should call police at 410-313-3200.
