Robber arrested after being captured by witness' cell phone

MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Marlyand robber, who was caught on camera by a witness' cellphone, has been arrested and charged in connection with a robbery that happened in Montgomery Village, Md. on Tuesday.

Police arrested Taizye Chirwa, 31, of Montgomery Village, Md. He was charged with robbery and assault, according to police. Police said, an arrest warrant for another suspect, Alhassane Couliably, 23, of Gaithersburg, was issued.

The robbery/assault happened around 6:16 p.m. Tuesday in the 18300 block of Lost Knife Circle in Montgomery Village, Md., authorities said.

Police found a 51-year-old man who had been cut on his forehead. According to police, the victim was in the parking lot talking to some friends, when four suspects approached him and asked him for a cigarette and a dollar.

The man said he did not have either and the suspects began to punch him and knocked him to the ground, police said. One of the suspect's stole the victim's phone, according to authorities.

Police said the victim was taken to the hospital for bruising and cuts to his forehead.

According to police, a witness caught the suspects on camera as they were fleeing the scene. The witness got a picture of the vehicle and tag number. Officers found the suspects shortly after in the getaway vehicle.
