A little boy is dead after the Prince George’s County Police Department said his mother suffocated him and committed suicide.
The incident happened around 10:00 pm on Saturday at a house on Countrywood Court in Landover.
“Woke up this morning to a murder-suicide next door,” Travis Thomas said.
Yellow crime tape was left behind at the home where police found the two-year-old boy and his mother dead inside.
A family member called 911 to ask the police to do a welfare check on the house.
A door in the back of the home appeared to have shown forced entry.
Neighbors told WUSA9 police had to kick the door in to get inside.
“I heard some banging and rumbling around. You know it is townhouses so you can hear,” Thomas explained.
Investigators found Joseph Wang and his mother, Yu Song, with injuries.
It was later determined Song suffocated her son and committed suicide, according to police.
“Man, he seemed like a happy two-year-old bro,” Thomas said. “Like he was — he was definitely just a very joyful little boy.”
There was a lockbox on the front door where people who live in the area said the family moved out of weeks ago.
Officers told WUSA9 the family lived in Glen Burnie.
There were unanswered questions police were working to get to the bottom of, such as what would drive a mother to kill her son.
“You can’t be a human being and not be sad to hear that man. You see a two-year-old and a mom — whatever the situation is. It’s very sad it’s unfortunate,” Thomas said.
The investigation is ongoing.
