The Charles County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of four people on Wednesday, all who are involved in a shooting that left a teenager dead last month.
The victim's family said the arrests are welcome news, but it doesn't make their life any easier.
"It doesn't bring Mason back to me," said Tammy Atkins. "I keep hearing the knock on the door when the detectives came to tell me my son was gone forever."
Atkins son, Mason, was shot and killed on Sept. 25 after an argument broke out near a party Mona Farm Place in La Plata, Maryland.
Police said Tyreq Kaylin Tilghman, Kevin Averell Jones, Talivah Laraiah Salahuddin, and Shanya Imari Milstead are responsible for his death.
Tilghman and Jones are 18. Salahuddin and Milstead are 17. All four are being charged as adults and accused of first-degree murder.
"These four people destroyed our lives. Our family's never going to be the same," Atkins said. "I pray to God they get punished for what they've done."
Mason's friend, who was reportedly driving the car, was also shot.
Atkins said her son loved to do anything outside, whether it was fishing or riding in a boat.
To honor that, Atkins said Mason's friends are raising money to create a memorial for him near the pier where he spent most of his time.
