Prince George's County executive Rushern L. Baker announced that he will run for governor of Maryland.

His campaign released a video early Wednesday morning announcing Baker's candidacy to become the Democrat Nominee for the Office of Governor for the State of Maryland.

Baker has served as a two-term Maryland State Delegate and a two-term Prince George's County Executive over the past 25 years.

“Marylanders work hard for their money and deserve a Governor who'll make it easier for them to afford healthcare, provide for their families, plan for the future, and have great public schools,” stated Baker.

“They deserve a Governor that supports paid sick leave, makes Maryland a leader in innovation and economic growth and stands up for the rights of all of us,” Baker added.

Baker is currently serving as the 7th County Executive of Prince George's County. He started his political career back in 1994 in the Maryland House of Delegates.
