A 17-year-old boy punched a female student in the head so hard that it knocked her unconscious, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said.

It happened around 2:20 p.m. just after school dismissed.

The boy refused verbal and physical direction of staff and officers, resisted arrest and assaulted a Sheriff’s Deputy, before attempting to flee.

The deputy tazered the student, who then complied and was taken into custody.

The girl was transported to an area hospital. Her condition is currently unknown. A deputy received minor injuries in the incident.

The School Resource Officer, Sheriff’s Deputies, and Frederick Police Department officers responded to the scene.

The boy was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and failure to obey a lawful order of a law enforcement officer.
