Michael Blair Gauthier may face additional charges pending toxicology results.

ARNOLD, Md. (WUS9) — An Arnold man is under arrest after the van he was driving struck a child walking on the sidewalk with his mother and brother, at the intersection of Andrew Hill Road & Bay Green Drive.

Police said Michael Blair Gauthier, 47, was driving westbound on Bay Green Drive when he drove off the road and struck 12-year-old Matthew Murphy.

Murphy was flown to the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center where he later died of his injuries.

Gauthier was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center with minor injuries.

According to investigators, the preliminary cause of the crash appears to be reckless driving, and failing to remain in a single lane.

Police said Gauthier was charged with criminally negligent manslaughter, grossly negligent manslaughter, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Gauthier may face additional charges pending toxicology results.
