Basement fire displaces three adults in Fairfax Co.

A small basement fire in Fairfax County caused $25,000 in damages. All people inside the home safely escaped. Two firefighters received injuries but were treated immediately.

Two people safely escaped a house fire in Virginia on Feb. 16.

The fire is believed to have started in the basement of the home in the 10600 block of Timberidge Road in the Fairfax Station section of Fairfax County at approximately 7:26 a.m.

One person inside the home first smelled smoke and then the smoke alarms started going off. Another person inside the house also evacuated safely. A third person wasn't home when the fire started.

Fire investigators are still trying to pinpoint the cause of the fire.

Red Cross assistance was offered, but ultimately declined.

Two firefighters sustained injuries on the scene. One was transported to the hospital for evaluation and the other was treated on the scene.

Damages are estimated to be about $25,000.
