SE DC fire leaves 8 displaced

No injuries were reported of those who were rescued, including one adult who is wheelchair-bound.

WASHINGTON — A fire in Southeast D.C. left eight people and one dog displaced Friday, according to D.C. Fire and EMS.

Four adults and four children made it out of the blaze in the 1400 block of T Street. One of the adults saved is wheelchair-bound, the department confirmed via Twitter. 

No injuries were reported after the two-story building‘s fire was extinguished.

On Monday, D.C. Police began investigating after a woman was found shot to death and then burned in another fire Southeast fire.

D.C. police identified the woman killed as 32-year-old Cynthia Barringer, and her death is being investigated as a homicide. 

The fire was reported around 4:17 p.m. in the 2300 block of Green Street, Southeast, according to DC Fire and EMS.  

The fire was quickly extinguished and officials say there were no other injuries reported.  

Firefighters returned to the neighborhood Monday morning to canvass and spread fire safety literature. Officials say they will also be conducting safety inspections and smoke detector checks. 

Investigators said there were smoke alarms present at Sunday's fire, and the cause of the fire still remains under investigation.
