Person dies after crash in Northeast DC

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

WASHINGTON — Emergency crews worked to rescue a driver who was severely pinned following a crash in Northeast D.C. Hours later that driver ultimately died from their injuries.

Police and firefighters were called to a report of a crash with entrapment in the area of Bladensburg Road and Queens Chapel Road Northeast around 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Responding rescue crews requested a crane to assist with getting the driver free. Major crash investigators were also called to the scene to determine exactly what happened. 

According to MPD, the trapped person later died from their injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Firefighters said only one vehicle was involved. 

Bladensburg Road between New York Avenue and Channing Street was closed in both directions while the rescue efforts were underway. Roads have since reopened.
