A D.C. police officer has been charged with driving under the influence while on duty early Sunday morning, police said.

Around 2:20 a.m., police say Officer Arthur Thompson was found to be under the influence of alcohol while on duty in the 1400 block of 18th Street in Southeast, D.C.

A supervisor was investigating Thompson after a resident called and filed a complaint.

During the investigation, the supervisor detected the odor of alcohol. Field sobriety tests confirmed Thompson was under the influence.

Thompson has been with the Metropolitan Police Department for four years. Police say all of his police powers have been revoked and they are investigating.
