The two CSX employees struck and killed by a train Tuesday night in D.C. have been identified, Metropolitan police said.

The victims have been identified as as 20-year-old Stephen Deal, of Meyersdale, PA and 25-year-old Jake Lafave, of Cumberland, MD.

Police said the crash happened in the 1200 block of New York Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday. The investigation shows that the two CSX employees were inspecting a CSX train on the tracks. They were hit by an Amtrak train going in the other direction.

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death was due to multiple injuries and ruled the manner of death as accidental.

Authorities said the National Transportation and Safety Board is doing its own investigation into the incident.
