Catholic University ordered students and staff to shelter in place early Wednesday, after two armed robbery suspects crashed their car on campus and fled the scene.

The university sent out a tweet just after 2:30 a.m. Instructing students the situation was not a drill.

Authorities from Montgomery County said the suspects robbed a location on New Hampshire Ave. around 1:30 a.m. and took off for the District.

Catholic University's Twitter account instructed all in campus to remain indoors. The shelter in place was lifted just after 3:30 a.m.

A dark sedan could be seen crashed and abandoned in a grassy median on Taylor Street NE, across from the university's Raymond A. DuFour Athletic Center.

Police could not immediately comment on specific charges filed during the early stages of the investigation.
