The mail carrier who landed a gyrocopter on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol has been fired from the United State Postal Service, WUSA9 has learned.

Doug Hughes faces multiple federal felony charges after he flew his gyrocopter from Florida to Washington in April. Hughes has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The gyrocopter Hughes was piloting had a USPS logo. He was on leave at the time of the incident.

Hughes says he made the flight to hand deliver letters to Congress about money corrupting politics and campaign finance reform.
