On Wednesday several University of Maryland students, who felt like hate permeated their campus this year, gathered for a tough talk in honor of 17-year-old Nabra Hassanen.

Nabra was found dead in a pond on June 18 after being killed while walking with her friends near her mosque. An autopsy revealed blunt force trauma to her upper body.

Darwin Martinez Torres, 22, has been charged in the murder of Nabra.

The students participating in Wednesday's vigil came from various UMD action groups like Protect UMD, the Muslim Political Alliance, Plumas and the NAACP. These are the same groups who pushed for change and more diversity training on campus following the murder of Bowie State Senior, Richard Collins III.
