2 suspects arrested in robbery near UMD campus

Update, 3:33 p.m.: University of Maryland Police have given an "all clear" on campus following an off campus robbery.

According to police, two suspects were arrested for a robbery at the 800 block of 36th Avenue.

The shelter in place order has been lifted.

UMPD officers will continue to maintain a presence on campus.

Prince George's County Police are investigating the robbery.

Original Post, 1:44 p.m.: University of Maryland Police have urged students to shelter in place after a robbery near the campus.

Police said it happened off campus in the 8800 block of 36th Avenue.

Officers are searching the woods behind the Chesapeake Building for a man armed with a gun, authorities said.

The suspect is described a black male, with short bushy hair, wearing a hoodie and armed with a hand gun,

PGPD K9 and Helicopter are assisting with the search. Continue to shelter in place if in this area. Continue to avoid the area and follow all public safety orders.
