Call For Action: Ticketing scams

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- WUSA9 had a Call For Action "Heads Up" about a parking ticket scam targeting drivers in the DMV.

Crooks send out fake emails threatening to impound your car, if you don't pay for overdue parking violations.
It directs you to a website to make payment.

The D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles says don't click on that link.

They want you to know that any legitimate notices for unpaid parking tickets are sent through the U.S. mail.
The DMV.DC.gov website address is printed on the back.

Here's a big red flag: the letter claims to be from the D.C. Parking Authority. There is no such agency.

If you get one of these fake notices, report it to the FTC.

If you have a consumer problem, file a complaint with our WUSA9 Call For Action team.
