A Prince George's County Boy Scout is going above and beyond to help people across the world.

James Wallace IV, 13, of Bowie, has collected more than 1,000 shoes as part of his Eagle Scout service project. He ultimately hopes to collect 1,500 shoes to give to a charity named Soles4Souls. That group will redistribute the shoes to people in need across the globe.

"I think about all the lives I'm going to change across the world for the kids who don't have these," Wallace said.

He started collecting the shoes in December through collection boxes, friends and family. Currently, an entire room of his house is devoted to holding them.

Wallace's parents say they are impressed by their son's effort.

"I'm very proud of my son," said Wallace's father, James Wallace III. "So is my wife. I would have never thought that a 13-year-old would have had it in him to collect 1,500 pairs of shoes."

Wallace will be collecting shoes from the public at the Bowie Branch Library, along Annapolis Road, February 10 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
