The unusual protest was meant as a show of solidarity with tens of thousands of students who, on the same day, will demonstrate in downtown Washington, DC, and elsewhere around the country to demand action by Congress on gun control.

For many of Leisure World's 8,000 residents who are all seniors, the specter of children being gunned down demands a response.

"Many of us protested against the Vietnam War and for Civil Rights, but that was fifty years ago," recalled Shirley Henderson, a protest organizer. "Now, many of us are facing physical challenges that make marching with signs and chanting a lot harder. But we'll be out there on Saturday because the stakes are just that high."

"We'll do anything to protect our grandchildren from harm—including fighting for common sense gun laws." Ms. Henderson said.
