Olympia is looking for a new home.

But weighing 128 pounds was holding her back from being adopted -- until one local veterinarian decided to help.

If you didn't get it already, Olympia is a dog.

To be specific -- an 8-year-old pitbull mix love bug. She's 80 pounds overweight.

She was found 300 miles away in Christianburg, Va. as a stray and was brought to the Montgomery County Animal Shelter in hopes that her owner would reclaim her.

But no owner claimed her and Montgomery County Friends of Animal Care & Control, Inc.took over her care. They knew in order to get her placed with her furever family, Olympia would need to get healthy.

MCFACC posted their plea to get Olympia help on Facebook and Dr. Lindsay Vega, an associate veterinarian at VCA Veterinary Referral Associates, responded.

With the help of a nutritionist, Olympia got a new diet. She also uses the hospital's underwater treadmills and resistance pools -- so that she can work out with low impact on her joints.

Laser therapy and massages also help with soreness post exercise.

All of this has helped Olympia lose 20 pounds.

“Her more extensive bloodwork came back with normal results," said Vega. "Her knees are bothering her, so we are trying to make her comfortable with pain meds but continued weight loss and possible surgery, at a later date, are going to be the two things that will help her the most.”
