WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The Wharf is opening on DC’s Southwest waterfront today and we figure it might just be the perfect place for a date. The mile long strip is transforming South West into a beautiful riverfront city with three brand new music venues, 4 public piers and over 20 restaurants and bars.
Cruising on the water
You and bae can have a romantic ride in a water taxi at The Wharf’s transit pier. Catch a ride to Alexandria or Georgetown or board one of the dining cruises for a unique experience exploring DC from the Potomac. Adults can take a ride roundtrip starting at $18 and children’s tickets start at around $12 if you want to take the whole family. You can also put your relationship’s balance to the test by renting a tandem kayak!
Get down at the Anthem
The company behind the 9:30 Club just carved out the coolest new spot in the music scene: The Anthem. In what used to be a warehouse, you’ll never forget your date here with seven wet bars, one coffee bar and a variety of munchies to keep you going. Its opening Thursday night with a sold out Foo Fighters performance but you can still go “hey, hey, hey, hey, hey” at Phoenix (who’s performing next week) or “get a little bit closer” with Tegan and Sarah. Bon Iver and Lorde will also be there this year.
Your love can also take you to one of the 20 restaurants along the water. If you’re looking for fine dining try Requin. This modern French restaurant is from Celebrity Chef Mike Isabella and led by Chef Michael Rafidi who cooked up some delicious Spanish-Moroccan Cuisine last month at Great Day! If you’re looking for something a little more casual, grab a beer or cocktail at the Wharf’s first rooftop bar and lounge - Whiskey Charlie.
Lay in the grass and end the day with sunset fireworks on Thursday and Sunday at The Wharf’s kickoff party! You can find out all the details about The Wharf’s four day celebration here.
