Today, Daily Blast Live discussed the incredible program at Washington Corrections Center for Women in Gig Harbor, which allows women with sentences under 30 months to raise their children behind bars.

The profile in People magazine followed one woman who entered prison at 7 months pregnant, and has raised her daughter inside the walls & daycare of the facility. The program, called the Parenting Residential Program (PRR), has been in existence since 1999 and women can apply for the service.

However, is this lifestyle good for children? Is it fair for the women in prison?

Sonja Alley, the correctional-unit supervisor for the program says yes. "Certainly, in the majority of cases, I feel like the child needs to be with their mother. Some say that the mom doesn’t deserve their child in prison. Maybe that is true, but the child certainly deserves their mother.”
