WASHINGTON (WUSA9) — This year’s ‘A Capitol Fourth’ broadcast on PBS looked great. But the fireworks that actually occurred on the National Mall? Well, not so much.

Due to low-lying clouds from Monday’s rain showers, the fireworks that launched from the Mall disappeared into a hazy sky.

It didn’t take long for people to start questioning what footage they were watching on PBS.

Viewers quickly realized what was really broadcast was a compilation of stock video from past years of ‘A Capitol Fourth’ fireworks shows. Footage from Sunday's dress rehearsal may have also been used.

And the jokes started pouring in.

The ‘A Capitol Fourth’ Twitter page quickly confirmed viewers’ speculations.

Many viewers were glad that PBS made the decision they did.

The whole situation had a lot of people saying, "Only in D.C."
