New VA pilot program could help veterans with PTS get a service dog

The Department of Veterans Affairs operates a pilot program matching trained service dogs with veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress.

The service dogs alleviate the mental and emotional hardship of these veterans. They may move and travel with greater ease after having the service dog.

The Mental Health Mobility Service Dog Benefit Pilot offers the qualified veteran an opportunity to be matched with a canine companion. The VA will cover most costs of the vet care for the service dog.

To inquire about applying for the Mental Health Mobility Service Dog Benefit Pilot, contact the VHA Center for Compassionate Innovation at VHACCISD@va.gov.
