NEW YORK (WUSA9/Getty Images) -- A proclamation written by George Washington was displayed at Christie's Galleries on Thursday prior to being auctioned in New York City.
According to Christie's, this was the first proclamation made by a United States President, declaring the first Thanksgiving holiday.
Signed by George Washington on November 3, 1789, the piece is expected to fetch between $8-12 million.
