Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Sports Network) - Karolina Pliskova of the Czech
Republic rallied past American Bethanie Mattek-Sands in Sunday's final at the
Malaysian Open.
Pliskova took down Bethanie Mattek-Sands by a 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 margin to capture
her first career WTA singles title. There was a rain delay in the third set.
Mattek-Sands, meanwhile, was playing in her fourth career WTA title match. She
has yet to win, though, also falling in finals at Quebec City in 2008 and 2010
before also losing in the 2011 Hobart title match.
The 27-year-old Minnesota native was a top-30 player before injuries began to
mount. She has dropped to 197th in the world.
Pliskova collected $40,000 for the victory.
