Buenos Aires, Argentina (Sports Network) - Third-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka was
an easy winner in his first-round match to highlight Tuesday's action at the
clay-court Copa Claro tennis event.
Wawrinka needed a mere 58 minutes to dispose of Paolo Lorenzi in 6-3, 6-3
fashion at Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club. The Swiss veteran saved five break
opportunities from Lorenzi for the match, while breaking his Italian foe twice
in the second and final set.
One upset did occur on Day 2, with Albert Montanes upending seventh-seeded
Pablo Andujar 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in an all-Spanish affair.
Also on Tuesday, Russian Andrey Kuznetsov topped 2006 Buenos Aires runner-up
Filippo Volandri of Italy 7-6 (7-5), 6-3; former top-five Spaniard Tommy
Robredo leveled Portuguese qualifier Gastao Elias 6-3, 6-0; German qualifier
Julian Reister bested Argentine Martin Alund 7-5, 6-1; Argentine Leonardo
Mayer overcame Italian Simone Bolelli 5-7, 6-2, 6-3; and Spaniard Daniel
Gimeno-Traver downed Serbian qualifier Dusan Lajovic 6-4, 7-5. Robredo titled
here in 2009.
On Wednesday, top-seeded David Ferrer will open his week against Argentine
wild card Agustin Velotti. Ferrer beat 2011 champion Nicolas Almagro in last
year's all-Spanish Buenos Aires finale and was the runner-up here in 2010.
This week's champ will pocket $84,550.
