Zagreb, Croatia (Sports Network) - Former champion Marcos Baghdatis was a
second-round upset victim Thursday at the Zagreb Indoors tennis event.
Slovenian Blaz Kavcic ousted the sixth-seeded Cypriot 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 at
Dom Sportova. The former Australian Open runner-up Baghdatis captured this
tournament back in 2007.
Another upset came when capable Dutchman Robin Haase doused fifth-seeded
Slovak Martin Klizan, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
Meanwhile, fourth-seeded Austrian left-hander Jurgen Melzer avoided the upset
bug by coming from behind to best Indian Somdev Devvarman, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5),
6-2.
Up next for Melzer will be big-serving Czech Lukas Rosol, who snuck past
Italian Flavio Cipolla, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
Also on Day 3, German qualifier Philipp Petzschner dismissed Croatian lucky-
loser Dino Marcan 6-3, 6-4. Marcan replaced second seed Andreas Seppi of Italy
in the draw.
Petzschner will meet Haase in Friday's quarterfinals.
