Shenzhen, China (Sports Network) - Su-Wei Hsieh of Taiwan and Britain's Laura
Robson were among the winners Sunday at the inaugural Shenzhen Open.
The fourth-seeded Hsieh began the 2013 campaign with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over
Hungary's Melinda Czink and the seventh-seeded Robson had little trouble in a
6-2, 6-1 rout of Romania's Edina Gallovits-Hall.
Next up for Hsieh will be Germany's Annika Beck, a 6-2, 6-7 (9-11), 6-4 winner
over Spain's Garbine Muguruza. Romania's Monica Niculescu also won Sunday,
earning a 6-4, 7-5 victory over China's Zheng Saisai to set up a second-round
match against Robson.
The top seeds for this season-opening event are China's Li Na and Marion
Bartoli of France. The top-seeded Li won't play until Tuesday against
Luxembourg's Mandy Minella, while Bartoli will open her 2013 schedule against
Hong Kong wild card Wing-Yau Chan on Monday.
This event serves as a tune-up for the Australian Open, which starts January
14.
