Berdych eased into the quarterfinals at the Stockholm Open tennis tournament.
The top-seeded Tsonga, of France, popped eight aces and handled Japanese Go
Soeda 6-2, 7-6 (8-6), while the Czech slugger Berdych fired 11 aces in topping
Estonian Jurgen Zopp 6-1, 6-4 on the indoor courts at The Royal Lawn Tennis
Club of Stockholm.
The former Australian Open runner-up Tsonga will face Ukrainian Sergiy
Stakhovsky in the quarters, while the former Wimbledon finalist Berdych will
meet sixth-seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny on Friday.
In other action on Day 4, Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky upended fifth-seeded
Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 and seventh-seeded Cypriot Marcos
Baghdatis was lambasting Alejandro Falla 6-0, 3-0 when the Colombian retired
from their second-round encounter.
Friday's other quarters will pit third-seeded Spaniard Nicolas Almagro against
aging former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt and the 2009 Stockholm champion
Baghdatis versus rising Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis.
The 2012 Stockholm champ will earn $113,795.
