Bastad, Sweden (Sports Network) - Rain was the big winner Thursday
at the $220,000 Swedish Open.
Four second-round matches were either suspended or postponed on the clay at
Bastad Tennis Stadium.
Third-seeded Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues was leading Swede Johanna
Larsson 3-1 and France's Mathilde Johansson was ahead of Israeli Shahar Peer
1-0 when play was called. Larsson was last year's runner-up here to Slovenian
Polona Hercog, who will meet Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova in a quarterfinal
here on Friday.
The conclusion of the second round and all four quarterfinals will comprise
Friday's schedule.
The 2012 Bastad champion will earn $37,000.
