Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings signed defenseman Carlo
Colaiacovo to a two-year deal and forward Justin Abdelkader to a four-year
contract on Friday.
The 29-year-old Colaiacovo was part of a defensive corps that helped the
Blues record a league-best 15 shutouts and allowed goaltenders Jaroslav Halak
and Brian Elliott take home the Jennings Trophy for fewest total goals
allowed.
He notched two goals and 19 points with a plus-seven rating in 64 games, then
added three assists in seven postseason appearances as St. Louis was
eliminated in the second round by the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings.
Heading into his 10th pro season, Colaiacovo has totaled 30 goals and 139
points in 370 games with the Maple Leafs (2002-09) and Blues (2009-12).
Abdelkader had eight goals and 14 assists in 81 games for the Red Wings last
season.
Over 209 career contests with Detroit, Abdelkader has 18 goals and 29 assists.
