New York, NY (Sports Network) - Tina Charles of the Connecticut Sun and Becky
Hammon of the San Antonio Silver Stars have been named the WNBA's Eastern and
Western Conference players of the week, respectively, for games played July 2-
July 8.
Charles, who earned her seventh career weekly honor and second of the season,
led the Sun to a 2-0 record, averaging 21.5 points and 12.5 rebounds over that
span. The third-year pro capped the week with a 19-point, 15-rebound
performance against the defending champion Minnesota Lynx.
Hammon helped the Silver Stars to a 4-0 record and captured her eighth career
weekly honor. The 13-year veteran averaged 20.3 points and 4.8 assists while
making 13-of-29 three-pointers over that span.
Other candidates for the award were Atlanta's Sancho Lyttle and Chicago's
Sylvia Fowles in the East, and, in the West, Los Angeles' Candace Parker,
Phoenix's DeWanna Bonner, Seattle's Sue Bird and Tulsa's Ivory Latta.
