Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Dodgers signed South Korean
pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu to a six-year contract on Sunday.
The Ryu deal beat the 5 p.m. ET deadline at the end of the exclusive 30-day
negotiating window the Dodgers won by posting a fee of $25.7 million, money
that will go to Ryu's Korean team, the Hanwha Eagles.
Ryu has spent his entire seven-year pro career in the Korea Baseball
Organization, compiling a 98-52 record with a 2.80 earned run average over
that time frame. He also helped South Korea to a gold medal at the 2008
Beijing Olympics.
The 25-year-old southpaw went 9-9 with a 2.66 ERA last season.
