Santa Barbara, CA (Sports Network) - Alan Williams posted a double-double with
20 points and 14 rebounds, as the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos defeated the Cal
State Fullerton Titans, 66-50, in a Big West Conference battle at the
Thunderdome.
For the Gauchos (10-19, 6-11 Big West), Michael Bryson added 14 points, Taran
Brown scored 11 points and Kyle Boswell chipped in with 10 points.
Kwame Vaughn led the Titans (14-16, 6-11) with 20 points, while Alex Harris
tallied 11 points.
In the opening period, both teams struggled to make shots. UCSB made only 37.5
percent of its field goal tries but was able to take a slim, 23-22, lead into
intermission. CSF shot just 34.8 percent from the field and missed all but one
of its seven shots from 3-point distance.
In the second half, the Gauchos heated up from the field, connecting on 50
percent of their shots, including 3-of-10 from 3-point range. The Titans
continued to have difficulty finding the basket, making just 36 percent of
their field goal tries and 2-of-8 from 3-point distance. UCSB opened the half
on a 13-4 run and never trailed again, as it secured the home victory.
The Gauchos dominated down low, outrebounding the Titans 42-25, and outscoring
them in the paint, 40-14.
