El Paso, TX (Sports Network) - John Bohannon recorded a game-high 16 points as
the Texas-El Paso Miners defeated the UCF Knights, 73-58, in a Conference USA
clash at the Don Haskins Center.
Konner Tucker added 15 points and four assists for the Miners (14-10, 7-4 C-
USA). Julian Washburn contributed 10 points and five boards, McKenzie Moore
chipped in nine points and nine rebounds as UTEP snapped a two-game losing
streak.
For the Knights (17-8, 7-4), Tristan Spurlock recorded a team-high 15 points
and six rebounds. Calvin Newell and Daiquan Walker added 14 and 11 points,
respectively, followed by Isaiah Sykes who put up 10 points and six boards as
UCF lost a second straight game.
Despite UCF starting out the first half on an 11-2 run, UTEP knocked down a
perfect 7-of-7 at the free-throws line, en route to a 31-28 advantage at the
break.
UTEP caught fire in the second half, making 16-of-25 from the floor, including
3-of-7 from long range. UCF was held to a mere 3-of-18 beyond the arc, as UTEP
took the 15-point victory.
UTEP, which registered only five offensive rebounds, dominated points in the
paint, 38-22.
