Edwardsville, IL (Sports Network) - Anthony Campbell scored 21 points to lead
the Austin Peay Governors to an 83-71 decision over the SIU Edwardsville
Cougars in an Ohio Valley Conference tilt at the Vadalabene Center.
Travis Betran netted 17 points while Chris Horton contributed a double-double
with 13 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots for Austin Peay (7-20, 3-10
OVC) which won consecutive games for the first time all season. Will Triggs
added 14 points.
Mark Yelovich paced SIUE (9-14, 5-8) with 21 points. Tim Johnson had 17 points
on 7-of-10 from the field while Kris Davis and Michael Messer scored 12 and 11
points, respectively. David also chipped in six assists.
Austin Peay came out of the gate on fire and led 28-6 midway through the first
half. The Governors shot 53.3 percent in the opening period held a 40-24
advantage on the scoreboard at the conclusion of the opening period.
Campbell got Austin Peay going with a three-point play to help the visitors
open up the second stanza on an 11-3 run. The Governors led by as many as 24
points. The Cougars managed to cut into the deficit later in the period,
during which they converted 15-of-21 attempts at the free-throw line.
Austin Peay won the rebounding battle, 40-22.
