Cheney, WA (Sports Network) - Collin Chiverton scored 18 points to lead the
Eastern Washington Eagles past the Southern Utah Thunderbirds to a 86-72
decision in a Big Sky Conference matchup at Reese Court.
Chiverton went 5-of-8 from the field and knocked down three 3-point attempts
for the Eagles (8-17, 6-9 Big Sky), who have now won two in a row after a two-
game slump. Parker Kelly scored 15 points while Tyler Harvey added 11. Martin
Seiferth put together a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds to go
along with four blocks.
For the Thunderbirds (10-15, 8-8), Jackson Stevenett scored 26 points and
corralled eight rebounds while going 14-of-16 from the free-throw line. A.J.
Hess drained five 3-pointers on his way to 24 points. SUU's setback marked its
third consecutive loss.
After the Thunderbirds shot just 29.0 percent from the field in the first half
and EWU shot 50.0 percent, the Eagles took a 39-31 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Eagles shot even better at 57.1 percent and outscored
the Thunderbirds, 47-41 over the final 20 minutes.
In total domination, EWU outscored SUU in the paint by a 38-12 margin. The
Eagles also shot 53.7 percent from the field while holding the Thunderbirds to
32.8 percent shooting.
