WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Ford is recalling 450,000 older model vehicles.
The recall affects the 2004 and 2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans and the 2001 and 2002 Ford Escape sport utility vehicles.
The car company says it needs to repair a safety defect that can cause the vehicles to catch fire or loose power.
Ford says it is aware of two minor accidents related to the minivan recall. There are no reports of accidents or injuries that involve the recall of the Ford Escape.
