ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY (WUSA9) -- A 15-year-old male student at Glen Burnie High School is charged after bringing a loaded handgun to school, police said.
On Tuesday at approximately noon, a 10th grade male student was questioned after leaving the campus. The students responses prompted school administrators to search his book bag where they found a loaded .22 caliber handgun containing seven rounds inside the bag, the Anne Arundel County Police Dept. said.
The School Resource Officer took possession of the gun and book bag and the student was taken into custody after which he was charged as a juvenile with weapons violations, police said.
"At this time, we have no information that any other student was involved or that the student whose bookbag contained the gun threatened anyone on our campus," Principal Vickie Plitt said in a letter to parents. "However, possession of a weapon is a clear violation of our Code of Student Conduct."
The juvenile will be placed at the Cheltenham Youth Facility in Prince George's County. According to the initial investigation, no other student was involved, police said.
Police are still determining the reasons behind why he was carrying the weapon and how he obtained it.
