Friends and family mourn the loss of 15-year-old Charles 'Chuck' Walker
PALMER PARK, Md. (WUSA9) Outrage and social media savvy young people have produced a 300-percent jump in tips to Prince George's County Police this week, according to Assistant Chief Kevin Davis.
The tips are coming in the wake of the 5th and 6th county public school students to be claimed by murder this school year.
"Information flows naturally with kids," said Davis who says social media has been key to spreading information quickly among teens. Tips then flow more freely to police.
Davis says the importance of tips has been "monumental". Of the six murders since late August 4 have been solved and tips have played an important role in each case.
To capitalize, Prince Georges County police are high active on Twitter and offer teens and others ways to report information anonymously both on-line and via text. The traditional Crime Solvers phone number has also played an important role.
