HYATTSVILLE, Md. (WUSA)  - Every police agency in Prince George's will start using a nationally-recognized series of questions designed to protect domestic violence victims.

Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown (D-MD), whose own cousin was killed by an ex-boyfriend, announced a $217-thousand dollar grant to train officers in 30 different departments on the "lethality" questionnaire.

When police are called about suspected abuse, they'll ask victims questions like: "Has he/she ever threatened you with a weapon?" "Has he/she tried to choke you?" and "Does he/she follow or spy on you or leave threatening weapons?"

Yes answers trigger the officer to call a domestic abuse hotline, and to try and get the victim to immediately talk to a counselor.
