REISTERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - Baltimore County police say an officer has been placed on administrative leave after fatally shooting a man who swung a sword at him as he served a warrant at the man's Reisterstown home.
Police say the 17-year veteran killed 48-year-old Ronald Cox Jr. late Thursday night in the 400 block of Highmeadow Road. Police haven't released the officer's name.
They say officers were serving a search warrant in connection with an attempted murder case. As police entered an upstairs bedroom, Cox swung a large sword at one of the officers and hit a shield he was carrying. The officer opened fire and fatally shot Cox.
Police say the officer is on routine administrative leave pending a review of the case.
