WASHINGTON (WUSA) -The defense council requested a continuance on Friday based upon new charges for defendant, Floyd Lee Corkins, who is accused of shooting a security guard in the arm at the D.C. headquarters of the Family Research Council.

Additional charges include a D.C. terrorism offense, which prosecutors say is the first time they have charged someone with committing an act of terrorism since the District of Columbia's Anti-Terrorism Act of 2002.

The charge carries a maximum prison sentence of 30 years.

Floyd Lee Corkins, who has been in custody since his arrest on August 15, will remain in jail until his trial date on Dec. 3 at 9:45 a.m. with U.S. District Judge Richard Roberts.
