ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- The Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Superintendent has been released from his job after his "request to arrange for an early retirement," officials said.
In a press release, it said that the Alexandria City School Board voted to release Morton Sherman before the end of his contract.
"The Board decided to release Dr. Sherman from his remaining contract after a great deal of deliberation," said School Board Chair Karen Graf.
He had approximately 22 months remaining on until his contract ends.
Margaret "Margee" Walsh, Ed.D., will be taking over until they name an superintendent.
In a press release, Dr. Sherman said, "Alexandria is a wonderful community and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at ACPS. It has been my pleasure to serve these amazing students and to work with these dedicated educators. I have confidence that the current School Board, staff and community will continue to work together to move the division forward."
