LOVEVILLE, Md. (WUSA9) -- St. Mary's County authorities say they have finally found a registered sex offender who is accused of stabbing a woman in a parking lot in Loveville, Md.
Authorities with the Bureau of Criminal Investigations say on Monday, a stabbing victim told officers that she was approached by 49-year-old Joseph Francis Berry, of Mechanicsville, Md. at a business in Leonardtown. According to authorities, Berry and the woman knew each other. The woman told them that Berry took out a knife and forced her to drive him to a parking lot in Loveville. Once in the parking lot, authorities say Berry stabbed her numerous times. She was able to escape from the vehicle and fled on foot for help.
Authorities say Berry fled the scene in the woman's blue, 2001 Ford Focus with Maryland registration 3AH7432.
The woman was transported to a medical facility for treatment, according to authorities.
Berry was not found until Tuesday, say authorities. He was located in Prince George's County, Md. and taken into custody. He faces charges of Armed Car Jacking, First Degree Assault, Theft of a Motor Vehicle and other related charges. Authorities also say that Berry is a registered lifetime sex offender.
