GERMANTOWN, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County Police are investigating a murder-suicide after finding the bodies of a teen female and man in a Germantown apartment.
Thirty-one-year-old Adam Anthony Arndt and 17-year-old Michelle Lynne Miller were found after police received a call at around 8:49 a.m. for a resident in the 12900 block of Pinnacle Drive. When officers did not get an answer at the door they entered the apartment and found the bodies and a firearm, police said.
Police were looking for the 17-year-old because she had been reported missing on Monday morning. Miller was a 12th grade student at Rockville High School, police said.
"Further investigation revealed that Arndt and Miller knew each other due to Arndt's assignment as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army and Miller's plans to enlist in the U.S. Army Reserve following her graduation from high school," Montgomery County Police said in a press release.
Police are still investigating this case but believe Arndt shot Miller.
Miller's parents say that she was helping Arndt deal with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
The Army says Arndt was a 9-year veteran who had served overseas in Korea, Germany and Turkey, reports the Associated Press. AP reports Arndt was a native of Manitowoc, Wisc. who was deployed to Turkey from September 2009 to September 2010. According to the Associated Press, Arnt was detailed to a recruiting office in Columbia since January 2011 and his duties included visiting schools.
