WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- One man is dead after a hit-and-run accident in DC on Saturday night, police said. It happened at around 10:38 p.m., at the crosswalk in the 100 block of M Street, NE, police said.
Darnell Christopher Ross, 20, of Upper Marlboro, Md. fell into the crosswalk on the street. That's when the vehicle ran him over and left the scene of the accident, police said.
"DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the adult male to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead," police said in a news release.
His mother, Cassandra Ross, talked to WUSA9's Delia Goncalves. Ross says her son was heading to Club Ibiza when she last spoke to him on Saturday night at approximately 10. He was calling to let her know he had arrived safely. Thirty minutes later, a driver struck him in the crosswalk and then took off.
Ross shared her pain and her anger: "Mostly, I'm angry because they didn't stop. That's just being cruel. I wouldn't hit a dog and not stop."
Ross says police believe the car that struck her son was a white Buick. They are also looking at surveillance cameras in the area.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at (202) 727-9099.
